The Lady Trojans played in front of a packed crowd this weekend as parents and supporters crowded the bleachers of Southside Park. It was Sophomore Day and Parents Day on Saturday when the Trojans hosted Lamar. TSJC earned a split with the Lopes. On Sunday, the Trojans split with Otero for the third straight series.
Overall it was a busy week for the team. They split with Garden City on Monday, returned home to discover Katie Glaze had been named NJCAA Player-of-the-Week, and then finished region play over the weekend. In the first game on Saturday, Teddi Garcia kept the region leading Lopes in check until the final inning when Lamar tied the score 5-5. TSJC responded in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases and scoring the winning run on a bad throw to home plate. In game two, a late comeback fell short and the Trojans dropped the contest 4-2.
On Sunday, TSJC dominated Otero in the first game behind Garcia's 18th win in the circle. The Trojans got doubles from Katie Glaze, Jelaeni Kapanui and Avery Boccella, and a triple from Jordan Sanchez to outscore the Rattlers 8-3. Game two saw the Trojans struggle in the box again as they fell 6-2.
The Trojans finished Region IX regular season play in second place in the standings behind Lamar. Lamar has clinched the top spot and will host the tournament later this month. TSJC (26-24, 17-13) will travel to Alamosa this Friday for a doubleheader with ASU JV to wrap up the regular season.
Current Region IX Standings (teams will play 30 conference games) – The top four teams will advance to the Region IX Playoffs in Lamar on April 27, 28 and 29. Lamar and Trinidad State have secured the top two spots. Six remaining region games this week will decide third and fourth.
