Baseball prepares for Region play

Trinidad State is 13-8 on the season but only three of those contests have counted on their Region IX record to this point. A split in McCook and a 13-4 win in Lamar have been surrounded by weeks of competition with teams like New Mexico JC and Eastern Arizona. This past weekend it was a four-game set with Adams State JV to round out non-region play before the Trojans play 33 of their last 35 in region. The Trojans took three of four from the Grizzlies at Central Park, dropping a close game one 6-4 before running away with the rest of the series by scores of 18-1, 7-1 and 18-4.

Statistically the Trojans are having a strong season at the plate. Alex Dominguez is hitting .476 to lead the team, which is hitting .330 overall. The Trojans have had 82 extra base hits so far including 22 homeruns. Damian Rodriguez has ten doubles, a triple and eight homeruns to lead the way.

On the hill, former Raton High School standout Cam Baird has three wins with 28 strikeouts and a 3.45 ERA. James Smith, Alex Goodman and Jose Torres have a pair of wins each. Goodman and Chris Mohr each have ERA's below three.

This coming weekend the Trojans will host Lamar on Sunday afternoon for a twin bill and then head over to Lamar on Monday afternoon for two more. Next weekend it is a trip to Sterling for four games before returning home for five in a row against Lamar, Western Nebraska and Northeastern.
